Hi, I have a doubt concerning the application for the Traineeship. According to the Rules, I can only apply if I have the first cycle of a higher education course and obtained a full degree or its equivalent. Well, my doubt is that I am in 5th year of my studies in Law and Business Administration (2 degrees) in Spain, so I have the first cycle but I dont have a title. The equivalent of studying 3 years in Spain would be Diplomatura, but I don't have this because my complete Degree is a Diplomatura + Master , all together. Can I apply? I have an official certificate proving that I have the First cycle (minimum national qualification equivalent to Diplomatura on the Annex I).

I wish to apply for the Directorate-General Enlargement. My main motivation regards the entry of Turkey within the EU. Indeed, throughout my academic career I have focused on it. Thus, do you think it may be too specific if I state in the movitation letter that I am mainly interested in Turkey's entrance process to the EU? I mean, would it be better to stand on broader lines, rather? I ask this for I doubt that being that specific may entail a take-it-or-leave-it options for selectioners, with regard to my motivations.

if you are Turkish citizenship I would not recommend to emphasizes that you are mainly interested in Turkey's entrance process to the EU, since they will never hire you in DG Enlargement, because of conflict of interests.
I contact that DG with similar question and they told me that they don't accept interns from countries which are in enlargement process.

Thanks for the reply but I am Italian :-)! Just interested in Turkey for I spent there time with Erasmus and EVS! However, regardless the citizenship i think it would be better not being so specific, otherwise you may close yourself other opportunities. I mean, the more you broaden your interests the more opportunities...what do you think?

True... I agree, but I had problem to explain what I want exactly and what I am interested in, without saying specific things and narrow down the area of interest... It is hard to stay "broaden" when you try to "sell" yourself. You know what I mean?

@jaimesawyer If you have a certificate that claims you have completed the first cycle then you can apply I think. If you're not sure, ask send an e-mail to the traineeship office. But personally I think it will not pose a problem.

@corrakdeniz mdenic85 mostly answered your question and I agree that you should not be too specific. Don't say "I want to work on (only) this", but say that you have "an interest in an certain employment area/ the activities of the Enlargement DG, as proven by your studies concerning the admission of Turkey to the EU". Or something like that. You can be a bit more specific I think, but I would offer multiple concrete topics to prove your not just focused on one thing only.

Hey guys! Do you know if you can do the EC traineeship after having done one with the European Central Bank?

I don`t want to disappoint you, I might be mistaken, but the European Central Bank is one of the EU institutions/bodies...you can see for yourself by simply searching on the internet "EU institutions"...as I can remember, the rules are that you can`t do a EC traineeship, if you had another traineeship in a EU institution, which lasted more than six weeks. Of course, if you want to be sure, you can send the traineeship office an email

Yeah that's what I thought, too. It's just that the website of ECB traineeships says that you cannot have worked with (only) the ECB in order to be eligible for their internship (i.e. you could have interned with the EC or other European institutions), so I was wondering whether this works both ways. I guess I should just e-mail them about it.....

Well, let's hope for the best! I don't think we should hear anything from the EC until June (unless your file is not eligible), so now the long wait begins...

I didn't get one either and I handed it in a few weeks ago. I guess I forgot about it :/ I'd better contact them...

I have also received my confirmation email yesterday and I have sent my application monday.

My application arrived in 6 days after I have sent it (I am from Romania) .... so it depends on where you are from, how far are you etc

I have a quick question: is any of you applying also for other institutions like Cor, EESC, EP etc? Because I want to apply as well, but there is little information here on the forum about them, so I am kind of lost in filling my application form

Hi Raluca, I am also from Romania. Is the second time I apply and yes I will also apply for the others. Last time, meaning for the session that starts in march or febr I have been accepted at EP, I passed the preselection at EESC but then I gave up, and I passed the preselection also for the EC. I have been contacted by 3 DG, 2 of them contacted me after the rejection mail, one last week actually but I have already told them in early january that I am not available for late selections as I already have an internship in a company. The only one that clearly rejected me was COR. The application proccess I think is much easier for the others institutions than for the EC as they do not ask documents sent before preselection or selection in the case of EP , so less headaches for us. Plus, the competition is not so high for the other institutions
