Criteria for preselection

Members of the pre-selection committees meet on a particular day and are requested to examine
application files, taking the following elements into consideration:
- The final marks obtained for undergraduate (and postgraduate) degrees/diplomas – a balanced
assessment should also take account of the candidate’s specialisations, as well as the academic
institutions at which they studied.
- Additional diplomas or degrees obtained, other particular studies and academic experience.
- The relationship between the DGs selected by the candidate (particularly first choice) and
his/her academic qualifications
- Reasons for applying in general, and motives for selecting specific DGs – justifications,
explanations, motivation, etc.
- Linguistic knowledge – the knowledge of one working language of the Commission is compulsory
(DE, EN or FR), any additional language is an advantage.
- Relevant professional experience (if applicable).
- The overall presentation of the application – looking for clear reasoning and expression,
accuracy of data, order and relevance of attached documents, etc.

hello everybody,

i have a question about eligibility. the EC traineeship website says the eligibility check should be completed by the end of october for march 2010 traineeship- which means, if i got it right, that if we didn't receive any refusal message by e-mail or post by that date, our application has been filled out correctly and therefore we are eligible.
i haven't received any message so far - and hope not to - but one the main page of the traineeship website the elibility period is indicated as still "ongoing".
i'm so tired of waiting...and it seems the dates shown on the website are not so reliable after all

gaia, don't expect the Commission to be worrying about such details as the "ongoing" status of the eligibility on their traineeships website. They don't bother about changing it from ongoing to finished, as they will have to publish the persons preselected by the end of november, then they will publish it on the website and that's most important thing, not the eligibility.
I don't mean to sound unfriendly or so, but you probably know that all of the institutions have delays in most of the legislative measures they're working on; ergo some shortages/delays with regards to the trainees' selection procedure are more than probable and this area is certainly not one of their priorities... and we just have to live with it.
If you didn't get any info so far, it means that your application is eligible; they never send any confirmation if it's ok. Good luck!

by the way, have you tried to apply for the EC traineeship before, or have you already done a traineeship actually?
I have another question about lobbying.
I have a friend who's been a trainee in the EC last year, and he advised me to lobby lobby lobby as much as i could, if i managed to get preselected.
it think i won't lobby like mad if i get in, but i will for sure try to reach by e-mail or phone the departments i'm really interested in.
the problem is, i am not sure WHEN to lobby...I will be travelling outside europe from mid-december to early january, and i guess that would just be the right time to lobby...i think they'll probably try to contact the prospective trainees before the winter holidays start.
has any of you an idea about when they normally contact would-be stageaires for the march-july traineeship?

It should be sent by th end of November and I haven't received anything, so I am just wondering what it means.

The list of preselected people is available on the intranet. So I guess you will receive the email VERY soon

intranet = inter-institutional network, available for the employees of the institutions. We still need to bite our nails a little bit longer...

Damn. For a minute there I hoped there is some sort of intranet for candidates where you could login just as you did when creating the resume. On the other hand, it's good to know that something is actually happening over there. It seemed that the Commission decided to cancel the traineeship, only forgot to tell us

I made it ! So now, the most important question: are you going to lobby? If so, what are you going to write in an email? Any suggesstions...?? And who we should contact? Just this e-mail addresses sent with an email today?

The best idea is to contact directly the HoU of the chosen units, that's how I got my job at least

Don't worry, you're not the only one :/ I passed the preselection the last time and my application was not successful now. Either sbdy must have had a really bad day, or they chose it randomly, or for the reasons unknown to me - my app was judged worse than the last time... anyway, disappointed but perhaps i'll keep on trying

yea, seems weird. well, I was disappointed because I did really lot in my CV since the application with wich I got preselected. I guess I had some mistakes in the last one, that is in the motivational letters.
questions to all: what kind of CV do u need to get to the research DG?I did some research work but for political studies in an institute, but nothing for pure science.
I'll cut research off the next time (I want to apply again, I feel like Im a machine )
Did anyone apply to only 2 dgs and got selected? U have lower chances, but less stress in the motivational letters filling!

You can send an email to the traineeships office and request your score - a detailed info why you weren't preselected.

Can you please share with us, in case they told you, how many points did you get? According to the rules in relation to the evaluation, 40 points is the maximum. It would be interesting to know what was the threshold for passing the pre-selection round. Thank you!

they told me the min. is 27 points, there are two people giving points. i got:
education: 5 & 2 (max. 8 each)
motivation: 3 & 4 (max. 6 each)
extra: 6 & 6 (max. 6 each)

i feel ok with motivation being the worst, I can work on it.
i just wonder about my education points: I got the max score in my BA, and did two exchange experiences..why is that so shit for them?!?
