Right, I wouldn't know as I'm only familiar with the admin traineeship application process. Do you not have be selected afterwards as well? For admin they select around three times as many as they need during pre-selection.

@Berenice GF: Translators don't even seem to have the luxury of getting to know scores.

This is from a wiki entry with an old source:

"As an exception, Directorate-General for Translation applies its own eligibility criteria to what are called translation traineeships, and there is no preselection. The rest of the procedure, however, is the same as for administrative traineeship."

For admin people: I was in contact with EAC, who told me that I would be notified "later this month", which wasn't very helpful. I guess they don't want to commit themselves to a specific date.

I emailed the commission about the preselection of the administrative traineeship, and got the following response:

"Candidates will receive a notification of their application's status when the preselection and pre-identification phases are finalised.
The last messages of notification will be sent in the first December week."

So it sounds as if these preselection phases are not done yet..?

Two years ago, they pre-identified 6 times the number of candidates sought (i.e. 12 per language) for the translation internships and only started sending offers on January 10, 2014 (about 6-7 weeks after notifying pre-identified candidates). See the link below for more details:

I'm glad I'm not the only one impatient to get the email!  I'm Romy, I'm British and I've applied to the EC for the admin internship.  I'm glad to hear that it should be next week so we don't have too long to wait now.  Good luck everyone

Does anyone know how it works if departments run their own traineeships at different times?  I thought of lobbying to the EESC but it seems applications for their traineeships closed on the 30th September, so I don't know if they take on trainees from the Blue Book.  I'm sure this process isn't meant to be as confusing as I'm finding it!

EDIT: I just read on Thirdyearabroad.com that a girl who applied "decided to take up a traineeship offer from the European Economic and Social Committee" so it looks like you don't have to apply directly to them. Still, when I was planning my lobbying emails something I read made me not write any for the EESC so I'm wondering if I should or not.

How to you get from being pre-identified to being pre-selected? Is the only criteria the legitimacy of your documents, or is this another kind of evaluation process?

Hi again,

pre-identification refers to the step before you've passed the eligibility check. It's not spoken of too often, since if your documentation is in order, you'll pass the check. Once you're confirmed as eligible, you are formally pre-selected, ie. ready to be selected by staff at the Commission! Does that make sense?

I logged in on EC's website and checked the update, according to which I has been pre-identified to be included in the Blue Book. Now I need to upload all the files as required. What about you? I have applied for administration traineeship. It seems that we are receiving emails earlier than those applying for translation traineeship.

In the spring, the waited to submit notifications to candidates that weren't selected until the eligibility check was completed. It may unfortunately be so that you weren't selected, in which case you would find out around November 19th.

Hi everyone, I received a message this morning stating I have been pre-identified to be included in the Blue Book for the March 2016 session. I have applied for the Translation Traineeship. I applied before, but do not recall a "Blue Book" for the Translation Traineeship, is this new? Good luck to everyone!
