Detailed information for specific Units Empty Detailed information for specific Units

Mon Dec 09, 2013 11:48 pm

Hi guys,

I'm still debating whether to lobby or not. My biggest issue with it is that I can find how a DG is divided into different Units and how they are called but I can't find any information on what each specific Unit actually does.
So I can't really tell if I have the appropriate profile for a particular Unit (based only on its name) if I don't really know what they work on.

Does anyone know how to find more detailed information at the Units level?

Thank you!

Hi, in my opinion there is no point in lobbying if you're unsure about which unit to work in. If you have a "dream" unit you'd like to work for, I would probably contact them. But I think it's counterproductive to just bombard several units with emails, especially as there's 2500 preselected candidates....

I agree, that's why I don't think I'll do it. I think it would make sense in my case since, from what I've gathered from this forum, my profile isn't the typical one.

I have a Science background interested in the Programs, Projects and Actions area. So I would like to try and make sure my application doesn't go unnoticed, but I can't find which specif units deal with this.

Oh well, I'll just wait and see what happens I guess. Thanks!

Lobbying only counts if you have a very specific specialisation in your degree or work , and you come into contact only with the relevant Unit that may be able to make good use of it...

Otherwise, it is irrelevant if you simply have to show general skills and you lobby in Units that are not substantially related to a field in which you have expertise.

A general interest that cannot be proved with degrees or experience is not what they are looking for. All the trainees have a remote interest in one or other DG, why should this matter, if you cannot prove that you have spent some months/years on this interest? They have plenty of more appropriate candidates to choose, for a specific task that requires specialist knowledge.

This is a rather lazy statement; how do you expect to work as a trainee if you can't figure out how to find all the details you want from the massive amount of information available in the Commission portal?  Exclamation

Well, I find this to be a friendly and informal forum where you can come with a question and then if people know the answer and are willing to help out then that's great and if not, no worries.

I don't know what information is available for each DG, but for the RTD one for example you do have tones of information, and can also see how it is organised. I know that a Unit called Infectious diseases and Public Health is relevant to me, but that doesn't tell me what is it that they actually do.

I understand this is the internet and obviously I don't expect people to look it up for me, I asked in case someone would already know. But please don't assume I'm lazy because I found it hard to find specific information unless you have indeed tried and found it to be extremely easy.

Good luck to everyone.

"You asked in case someone would already know" what exactly? Some wikipedia with detailed and specific information for all the Units of all the DGs? There is no need to open such a vague discussion thread, I am sure you understand that. Only in your last message did you specify a specific Unit of your interest, I hope you understand now that your initial query was far too general to answer...It would have been far more helpful to you AND visible to others if you had opened a discussion requesting information on research and technology units! Anyway, good luck to you!
