What to expect?

Hello everyone!
I'm currently completing my application for a traineeship at the EC from March 2014 and I got hopelessly stuck in the motivation section... They are asking for our expectations from the traineeship IN GENERAL, but to be honest I DON'T really know what to expect from it and I can't think of anything else to write apart from the general idealistic phrases like: gaining an insight into the work of the particular DG, valuable experiences, important contacts, new horizons, intercultural experience...
I would really, truly, deeply (!) appreciate it if someone more experienced, i.e. an ex or current trainee, or just someone who is in the know more than me would care to share his/her insights and experiences, among all else concerning the question what SHOULD one expect from the traineeship at the EC in general, i.e. regardless in which DG.
