DG DEVCO selection procedure
Thu Dec 12, 2013 7:06 pm
Hi guys!
Does anyone know how DEVCO select their trainees? and what about the number of trainees for the whole DG DEVCO?
I lobbied three units but just got some random response emails. No calls no nothing
good luck to all of u!

I also lobbied three units from DEVCO and received only one answer saying that "Your resume will be kept on our active file and we will be glad to consider it at the time of selecting our new trainee." I can't tell if they usually make calls or not.

I'm not quite sure about DEVCO. I have recently lobbied several units but so far received only one response informing me that "We are currently undertaking the selection procedure, including reviewing the CVs of candidates most suitable to work in our unit. You will be informed about the outcome in due course." That's all.

Heard back from DEVCO B5 (Instrument for Stability, Nuclear Safety), they have already chosen a Trainee.

Hi guys,
DEVCO usually selects its trainees without contacting them at all (meaning no interviews, no emails, no calls about availability etc). So do not worry if you don't hear from them, you might still get the 'You have been selected' email from the TO!

Thank you Elanor for this response, somehow is a relief among those messages about phone calls and already closed selections.
I believe you're a current trainee in EEAS, am I right?
How about EEAS? Do they select people directly on the Blue Book? I lobbied several units at EEAS, my profile is quite specific yet somehow general IMO (worked and lived in a S.Asia country for a year). I thought I had my chances, but I'm a bit discouraged, seeing here that some units have already chosen their trainees

Hello, to clarify, I'm a current trainee and I know this from my own experience (got selected by DEVCO & EEAS, chose the EEAS), and from trainees in DEVCO.

And you didn't hear from either EEAS or DEVCO before the e-mail from the TO?
Which unit in the EEAS were (or are) you in?

I got a call from the EEAS division to tell me I was their preferred choice, and if I was still available (there had been no interview, but I had lobbied to them). I replied yes (of course!) and they told me they would select me when the system would open to officially book the trainees. The next week I got called again, that they wanted to book me in the system, but that DEVCO had managed to book me first, and if I knew anything about this. I didn't, as I had never been contacted by DEVCO, neither by email nor by phone. I then had to choose.
I'm in the Andean Countries Division of the Americas department.

Hey Elanor!
Thanks very much for all of the info!
Now I see why the Division for the Andean Countries will not have a trainee vacancy in March ;-) Lucky you!!
Are you enjoying your placement at EEAS? It seems that you were a strong candidate to draw interest from both EEAS and DEVCO. Would you feel comfortable to say what you think were your key attributes that led to your selection?
Best wishes!

Thanks Albari! I love my work at the EEAS! It's exactly what I wanted to do. I'm not entirely sure what were my key attributes, but I'm completely specialised in Latin America with a BA in Latin American Studies & an MSc in Latin American Studies and internships related to international development.
Good luck! I know how hard the wait is!!!

Sounds great! Is there any possibility to continue working there after your traineeship, as a contract agent or so?

I had an interview with DEVCO C2 (four days ago), and was informed (the day after) that I have been selected as their preferred candidate. However, each unit seems to have their own selection process, so don't loose hope. good luck!
