March 2019 Traineeship

Sadly, I enquired to the agency that interviewed me and they said they did not book me and that I should not wait to hear the results because another DG may have.
I suspect the reason has to do with the fact that I put them as my 3rd option in the list. I have started to lose hope.

Yes, national quotas are applied at the preselection phase in order to ensure that every Member State is represented in a balanced way. However, I am not certain to what extent they have to be respected at the final phase.

Regarding the next stages, I believe that the first choices will be contacted by the end of next week (18 Jan).

DGs and agencies were notified before the Christmas holidays whether they were successful to reserve their selected candidate.

Looking at data from previous years it seems like they do respect the quota.

The Traineeships Office will begin sending offers on 18th January. This is the news I've received today from the DG that has selected me. Keeping my fingers crossed that I end up with an offer from the TO! All the best to all of you too!

Thank you for the info. Did they tell you whether we will receive the offer from the TO via the website or directly to our email?

They told me the same, but idk whether it will be by email or a notification on the traineeship account. It will probably be on our online account.

No I don't know about that. But I guess we'll get the notification through email either way.

I requested the TO to take into account my preference for my DG ranked second. They told me that there role is to ensure the application process, and not the selection which is the DG:units last word apparently.

Another question, if a DG selects you and submits its list of candidates to the TO. Can the TO decline it? Damn if true, 18th January can't come any sooner.

I dont think the TO can decline it, given that the last word is to the DG/unit.

That's good to know! I received an email by DGT Stages Contact in December saying that I had been selected for the March 2019 Translation Traineeship, but since they also repeated twice that it was not the official and binding offer and then told me not to make any arrangements before the TO sent the official offer to sign in January, I wasn't sure whether to completely rely on that email or not. Now it should all be more clear... Thank you. Fingers crossed and good luck everyone!!

They told me that the final say has the HR unit of the DG in question. They send the CVs of the top candidates that they have liked to their HR, who makes the final decision (not the interviewer per se). Afterwards, HR send their choice to the TO. TO can interfere only in case more than one HR wants to recruit the same candidate

No not yet. I was just wondering whether there was a group on facebook.

Hmm, I don't think so. I think it will be created once all applicants have received their official offers, and maybe each other's contact details from their DG's.

I only know that in DG Translation they have 2 places per language. What did you apply for?

Hi everyone,

First time writing here. I was shortlisted as well and got several calls from different DG's. One of the DG I was in contact with, told that the offers will be sent out in the end of January approximately 22.1.Maybe the dates will vary since there will be quite many interns.. I hope the offers come soon in order to know whether was selected or not! Good luck for everyone!

So, it's the 18th... Has anyone received anything yet? Can you please post as soon as you do?

Also, to people who were selected by DG Translation:
Were any of you told that we would get our offers on the 18th? Now I'm afraid not all DGs send their offers on the same date!
The email I got only said "The only official and binding offer to be signed will be sent electronically in your account by the Traineeships' Office (DG EAC) in January 2019." But I think none of us had interviews, did we? So fewer morselfs of informations were revealed to us...
Also, did you guys receive further emails about putting all DGT trainees in contact, or has that not happened yet ? I've not received anything...

For me, this is getting ridiculous. Last period, I was again pre-selected and the TO send us our offers a month afterwards (that was 3 months before the official start of the traineeship) so you had plenty of time to solve your housing and employment situation. And now, I'm counting every day and the time is already pressuring me very badly!!!!! TO should have managed these applications a lot faster!

Too true, the situation is absolutely ridiculous now!

I am still hoping they will start sending out offers today. We received the preselection notification on a Friday around 5pm so...

maybe....Monday?!!
